Recently Deleted
Fidelius keeps a copy before it removes or overwrites any value. These go to Recently Deleted, at the bottom of the sidebar:
- a deleted secret;
- a deleted project, with every secret it held;
- the old value of a secret you edited, imported over, or replaced by a move or a restore.
Right after a delete, a banner offers Undo for about 10 seconds. After that, restore from Recently Deleted.
Entries stay until you remove them. Nothing expires on its own. They sync to every Mac signed in to your iCloud account.
Restore an item
- Click Recently Deleted in the sidebar.
- Select the item and click Restore.
Restore never overwrites. If the name is taken, you choose:
- Restore as NAME_RESTORED keeps both.
- Replace Current Value moves the current value to Recently Deleted first, then restores.
Restoring a deleted project asks once for each name that's taken.
Values stay hidden here too. Reveal and Copy ask for Touch ID like any secret.
Remove items for good
Delete Now removes the selected item, and Empty removes everything on screen. Both remove it on all your Macs and can't be undone in Fidelius. If backups are on, a copy may still be in your backups.
Limits
- If two Macs change the same secret while offline, iCloud Keychain keeps one value. The other isn't in Recently Deleted, but your backups have earlier values.
- An older Fidelius on another Mac deletes and overwrites without Recently Deleted. Keep Fidelius up to date on every Mac.
